In macOS Monterey, you can convert a series of 2D images into a photo-realistic 3D object. You will see more information about sights, trees, streets, height differences and the like. In addition, you can look around certain cities such as London, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. So you can continue dictating as long as you want.Īnother nice addition is the 3D globe in Apple Maps.
In addition, there is no more time limit. On an M1 Mac, local processing also applies to dictating texts. MacOS Monterey includes privacy features, allowing more editing to take place locally on your device, even offline. However, in macOS Monterey, it only works on Macs with M1. Text-to-speech feature for Siri now works in more languages, namely Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish. Live text works in photos, screenshots, Safari and in the Quick Look feature. Live text can be used on almost every recent iPhone and iPad, but on the Mac it is limited to M1, as can be seen from footnote #3 in this preview. You can also photograph a handwritten recipe and then convert the text to typed text. Going forward, it's likely Apple will continue building out macOS with new features available exclusively on Macs with M1 - or the upcoming Apple M2 chip, if the rumors prove true.With Live Text you can recognize text in photos, for example a phone number. If you happen to have an Apple Developer Account, you can download the macOS Monterey developer beta right now to take an early look at some of these features, though of course there will be many updates between now and when the final version hits the market. The public beta due out next month should afford us more insight into whether those features are worth the upgrade. While we won't know for sure how good or useful these features are until macOS Monterey launches in the fall fall, the fact that Apple is building tools exclusive to the M1 chip gives macOS users another good reason to invest in a new Mac packing Apple silicon.

Siri: Siri is getting an upgrade in macOS Monterey that includes M1-exclusive support for text-to-speech voices in Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish. It's a neat trick, and one that's only available on M1-equipped Macs. Object Capture: macOS Monterey is also introducing a new AR-focused feature called Object Capture that will let you create a photo-realistic 3D object out of a set of 2D images. However, these flashy new Maps features are only available on Macs with an M1 chip. Maps: Apple Maps is getting an interactive 3D globe feature a la Google Earth - one that will allow you to zoom in to scope out major geographical landmarks or explore select major cities (think: New York, San Francisco, London, etc.) with new levels of detail. MacOS Monterey's new Live Text feature will let you select text in images, then paste it into an app like Maps - but only if your Mac has an M1 chip.
